Billy’s Cabin
Perched on balcony
full view of oak
and pine-lined pastures
hummingbirds swoop
under the eaves
seeking nectar
raven and eagle
skim the blue expanse
green bristle treetops
dusk arrives
October full moon
climbs across globe
out of dark silence
bounces eerie echoes
of a howling wolf pack
soon after
sounds the primal
call of one elk
in search of another
all these
are remedies
for a severe case
of city blues
Abundance
Climbing vines coil
hearty and heat-tolerant
stems stretch outward,
petite yellow flowers
cluster and sprout
oblong pale-green fruits
appear after bloom,
seed infused pouches
change to light orange,
day by day, sweet
sun-kissed skin
morphs to crimson
plentiful harvest,
handfuls of ripe morsels
add a dash of color and zest
to any plate and palate
