Follow Up Interview with Writer, Christina Hart

Last week; Thursday, Friday & Saturday featured my 3-Way interview with: Christina Hart, Cynthia A. Rodriguez, and J.R. Rogue. This weekend, I\’ll be showcasing their individual interviews.  As I\’ve already interviewed Christina, I asked if she had time to a quick follow up. I always find Christina\’s answers to be fascinating and consistently entertaining.  Christina is the type of scribe that acknowledges the darkness and works through the pain. Her pieces always echo the voice of one who has experienced a lot of adversity – someone who is truly genuine and never fake with their craft.  Christina is a true artisanal writer!

RMMW: What are you working on now?
CH: Right now, I’m working on a ghostwriting project. As far as my own work is concerned, I just released a new poetry chapbook (Our Water Graveyard, which was written in the voice of Kitty Bordeau—the main character from my Summer of Secrets novella). I have several novels in progress, but none have really stuck with me. I plan to pick one after this current job is over.
RMMW: Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
CH: As far as my novels go, most are standalones. I wrote a dark fantasy series, mostly on accident because the story just wouldn’t end. LOL.
RMMW: What is the best money you\’ve spent as a writer?
CH: For my poetry cover artist’s illustrations, hands down. Her name is Diana Gomes, and she’s located in India. She illustrates all my poetry book covers, keeping them consistent throughout while ensuring each is has its own unique theme, and I wouldn’t trade her for the world.
RMMW: Do you think anyone can write?
CH: Absolutely. I don’t think everyone can write well, at least at first, and that mostly stems from self-doubt. But with practice, comes poise. It’s a learning experience, just like everything else. And with writing, honesty comes above all else. As long as the individual is honest and genuine, their work will be good. I strongly believe that.
RMMW: I know, it\’s like selecting your preferred baby but, which book is your favourite poetry book and novel by you? (Mine is There Is Beauty In The Bleeding the title alone is ensconced with so much emotion and imagery & of course Synthetic Love is delicious also.)
CH: My favorite poetry book of mine is Don’t Tell Me to Be Quiet. It was written during a very dark time in my life, and is probably the most honest poetry collection I’ve ever written. Synthetic Love is probably my favorite novel. I have such a soft spot for Alan.
RMMW: Have you ever taken any writing pilgrimages? Where?
CH: No. I write in solitary confinement. It’s preferable for me.
RMMW: Where is your dream place to host a book signing?
CH: Paris, but selfishly it’s just because I’ve always wanted to visit there.
RMMW: What would you say is the most challenging aspect of actually writing books?
CH: Actually writing them. LOL. It always starts so calm and fun, and then it spirals, and then you spiral.
RMMW: Do you have any writing pet peeves?
CH: When I’m stuck in a plot hole and don’t know how to move forward. Interruptions when I’m in the flow, whether they are internal or external. Noise. Some people listen to music as they write. I cannot. I need silence.
RMMW: What music is on your device right now, that you write too?
CH: I’m kind of obsessed with Halsey right now. Her music inspires a lot in me. But I can’t listen to it and write. I have to write in silence. I don’t know why. It’s kind of saddening to me, because I LOVE music, and writing is the one activity I can’t do while listening to it.
